Featured Volunteer: Karim Kamara

Karim Kamara is a name you might recognize. You may have even met him in our warehouse, which might sound odd to mention about a featured volunteer of the month...of course he would be in our warehouse, right?! BUT Karim actually lives in Sierra Leone, so now doesn't that sound crazy!?

Yes, Karim is back in the States this month and we ran into him at a recent collection at Oakdale Church in Olney. This collection was held specifically to support beneficiaries in Sierra Leone and they convinced Karim to adjust his travel plans so he could be there to work alongside their volunteers.

We will be loading a container for Sierra Leone next week and many of these bikes will be included in the shipment. The church did a phenomenal job collecting over 150 for the project. After a busy weekend upcoming we will have enough bikes to fill that container.

Karim was here last year and the year before when he visited our warehouse and met with our volunteers and supporters. He answered questions about the program we support in Sierra Leone, Village Bicycle Project. Karim is the country director of that program. He oversees many other related projects including a student meal program in August and a bicycle race called Tour de Lunsar.

Karim, also known as Stylish, is quick to get his hands dirty and jump right in to help whatever activity is going on at BfW, whether it's at a collection (he's been to several) or a loading (he's participated in several).

He's also great on social media where he shares stories of our success and news from his program on Sierra Leone.

If you stop by the warehouse sometime in May you just might run into Karim again before he heads back home in time to receive the container we are loading this month. And once his feet hit the ground there, he'll be busy putting your old bike back into good use!
