Featured Volunteer: Brody Shibler
Brody (seen here with the bike) is one of our regular Thursday night volunteers. He's a student at Good Counsel...for now...and comes to strip parts off bikes on Thursday nights for service hours. Good Counsel advertises Bikes for the World for service learning hours and we get quite a few students from there who volunteer regularly. Brody is one of them.
Brody has been coming to volunteer throughout his high school tenure, four years to be exact. His Dad works just down the hill from us and likely saw the back of our warehouse, which is lined with windows, stacked high with bikes. They drove up one day to check out what this was all about. And Brody knew BfW was a place where he could volunteer for school. He's been a regular ever since.
Brody isn't necessarily drawn to bikes, but he does know his way around the tool bench. He is quite competent and able to come and just work independently which frees up Todd to work with newer volunteers. Brody is often lending a hand to other volunteers like David, which comes in handy on those nights when we are busy.
When we are lucky Brody doubles his impact by bringing along a friend. Working in the shop is a great way to learn more about bikes, tools, leverage, and we think, a pretty cool place to hang out with friends and family. All of that while making a difference in lives half way around the world. If you haven't volunteered at Bikes for the World yet, why the heck not!?
