How To Apply
Can your organization use a large number of used bicycles to further its employment, education, or health care mission?
Bikes for the World welcomes requests from serious, professional non-profit organizations in Central and South America, the Caribbean, Africa, and the Asian-Pacific region.
A typical donation consists of approximately 500 used bicycles, plus an assortment of spare parts, arriving in a 40' shipping container. We do not provide any grant funding. We generally cannot pay for shipping. We cannot ship small quantities of bikes.
Please email a brief letter of interest to office(at)bikesfortheworld.org, containing:
- A one-page work plan describing what types of bicycles would be useful and why, how they would be used, and how the project would be managed;
- Evidence of institutional capacity--one-pabge or more describing a successful track record of social service delivery or economic empowerment benefiting the poor, listing activities, results, location, institutional partners;
- Financial statement (with US dollar exchange rate) for the most recent year, identifying sources of support;
- Contact information for an objective reference--an individual who knows your program and works for an international agency.
Should the initial application warrant further review, Bikes for the World will ask for a full proposal following our guidelines.
We do not respond to requests for fewer than 500 bikes.
Successful applicants are required to pay the direct costs of commercial shipping--for a 40' container, these can range anywhere from US $3,000 to $10,000.
Please direct all inquiries and final proposals to Mr. Keith Oberg, Director, Bikes for the World, at info(at)bikesfortheworld.org.
